IT IS BETTER IF WE
SMOKE
Nowadays, there are
smokers everywhere. It is close to the fact that there are lot of people die
because of lungs cancer. That is why some issues about cigarettes should be
banned rise. If the issues come true, there will be bad impacts for smokers
such as less spirit in doing something or feel boring all the time. This essay
aims to persuade the readers that cigarette is not bad at all. Do you think
cigarette is really bad? In Indonesia, about 75% of people are identified as
smokers (Muhamad Alif: Smoke and its
danger. Jakartapost.com). They smoke cigarette consciously and know what
the bad effects of smoking but that is not matter for them. They still smoke
cigarettes. Besides, cigarette has an important role in this country especially
for the economic growth. So, the reasons why cigarettes should be kept legal are
there will be black market of cigarettes, a lot of people will lose their job, the
country revenue will come down, and cigarette industries can support many
events in Indonesia.
There will be a high
demand for selling cigarettes on the black market if the government makes the
cigarettes become illegal. Person who is mentioned as a smoker will be hard to
stop consuming cigarettes suddenly. They will do whatever they can do to get
cigarette. Then, businessmen will see the problem and provide a chance for the
smokers to get the cigarettes on the black market. Every good which is sold in
black market is assumed free from taxes because the black market goes
illegally. Of course it is bad for the country. Next, the price of the good may
be higher than it used to be because it is rare. It means the price will be
more expensive because cigarette is needed by lot of people but it is illegal
so that the businessmen will take the big profit by increasing the price. Another
bad effect of the black market is the quality of the good. People do not know
whether the cigarettes sold in the black market have a good quality or not. So
it will be dangerous for the people.
People who work on the cigarette
industries will lose their job if cigarette is illegal. In Indonesia, the
cigarette industries are concerned as the biggest industry that has thousands of
employees. If the companies are closed, those men power will lose their job. It
is hard to find a good job nowadays. If the people do not have any title or good
education history, the people may not get the job for the rest of the days.
Therefore the unemployment rates of the country will rise up and become a big
problem for the country. Because the unemployment rates rise up, the number of
poverty will also increase so that many children in the country will lose their
chance to get a good education because their father do not have a job anymore.
Cigarette industries
help the government increase the country revenue. As mentioned before, the
cigarette companies are the biggest industries which have higher tax than other
industries. Related to this country, Indonesia is a developing country. So it
needs some companies which can help increasing the country revenue. So, if the
Indonesian governments make cigarettes become illegal, this country will lose a
big chance to get the big revenue because the companies will be closed.
The last reason why
cigarette should keep legal is the cigarette industries support many big events
in this country. Some of them are soundrenaline, A-mild Live on TV, and Java
Jazz concert. Those events are supported by PT. SAMPOERNA (T. Widianti: 2008).
Besides, there are some TV programs supported by the cigarette industries in
Indonesia. For example, the program Barclays
Premier League and Indonesia Super
League on Global tv and MNC tv are supported by Djarum Super and Gudang
Garam: Pria punya selera. The market
price of those programs is too expensive so that the other companies cannot
support the programs. But PT. Djarum
Super and PT. Gudang Garam: Pria
punya selera can support them so that Indonesian can watch the programs.
So there will be black
market of cigarettes if the cigarette industries are banned and closed. People
who work on the companies will lose their job and the country revenue will come
down. Besides, the cigarette companies support many events in Indonesia so that
cigarettes should be kept legal. The industry brings a big revenue for the
country. A man has his own right to do something. If the thing is not really
bad, why the thing should be banned? The people smoke cigarettes consciously
means that they are fine with it. There is not any thing wrong happened to
themselves when they smoke. So, just let the cigarette keep legal and let the
people choose whether they use it or not. It is better if we smoke to help our
government develops this country.
