The Last Reflection

So this is my last reflection on this class. First I want to say thanks to God because of His blessing I can pass this class with great friends of mine together. Thank you God! I want to say thanks too to my beloved lecturer Mr. Prast who is always great. Thank you sir! Then I want to say thanks to my lovely friends who support me so far. Thank you guys!
On the last chance I practiced teaching, I got nervous. I got nervous because I was afraid if my friends were not cooperative but they were. The problem was me that I did not master the materials well so I found difficulties to explain the materials. Therefore I mixed my language. But I know God is always fair, from those difficulties I became aware that it is not true an English Teacher should use English as the medium language. It depended on the students’ level. For low class students, the teacher can mix the language in order to make the students (all of the students) understand the materials. I found that the students would be easier to understand the materials if they are explained in two languages.
Then I want to tell that I have got many experiences of becoming a good teacher from Micro Teaching Class. I learned how to greet students on the first meeting in polite way. I learned how to make a good set induction, a goof main activity of the teaching-learning, and a good set closure. I found reinforcement was good for students’ advantages and could make them learned happily. I found a lot of my friends did some mistakes when practiced teaching and I could see they found the way they learned from their mistakes. I found that mental readiness was very important when it’s time to teach. I learned mastering the materials well was the one way of preparing the mental readiness. Besides I learned that respect others was important for a professional teacher. An old man said that you would be respected if you respected others. I think it is real.
All right, at the end I only can say it is great of having this class. I will never forget about this class and all of the experiences that I get from this class. Thanks a lot once more for Mr. Prast. Thanks for this study program. And thanks for this university.

Reflection 14

“Never force the students’ ability.”
I got that statement from my friends on Micro Teaching class last three weeks ago. After reflecting the statement, I think it is correct. We cannot force the students to master the materials once we’ve explained the materials. The students also need a break and reflecting what they’ve learned. So I think, the assignments are given directly after long explanation by the teacher is not really effective. Just give the students homework.

Reflection 13

One of the ways practitioners assess the students’ understanding on the material is giving class assignments. Based on my experience on Micro Teaching class, the assignments that the practitioners give are too many. I know, it is good for the students but consider their capability, the assignments can make them shock because they’re just given the material then they have to do hard assignments.

Reflection 12

Again, I found there was still a trouble with the time management.
Some friends of mine, I believed, had arranged their time to teach but still they had not enough time. Seemed like we must need much time to teach but actually the given time is enough if can control the class.

Reflection 11

PRACTITIONERS’ COMMON MISTAKES

All right, here are some practitioners’ common mistakes based on my experience being students:
  • ·      Not clear instructions
  • ·      Doing unnecessary gestures
  • ·      Do not master the materials well
  • ·      Talking to fast
  • ·      Nervous
  • ·      Do not manage the time well
  • ·      Do not vary the teaching strategies

Reflection 10

CLEAR INSTRUCTION
There are some ways for the teacher assessing the students understanding about the materials. One of them is to give them a short test or quiz. What the teacher should do at the very first time is that make sure the instruction is clear so that the students don’t get confused. So the assessment will be objective.

Reflection 9

DRESS APPROPRIATELY
Dress appropriately! I got this statement from the Vocabulary Class where I practice teaching. What is the point of dress appropriately when we stand as a teacher? I think it is fair if the teacher should or must dress well as long as they are the leader. Dress that we wear describing our personality as a teacher. There is an old-man said that a teacher is the one who worthy to follow. Therefore the teacher must be good-looking and must wear appropriate dress.

Reflection 8

SELF CONFIDENCE
What is the self confidence’s role in teaching practice?
Actually it is very important since self confidence helps the practitioner work well. Without any confidence in their selves, the practitioners will get nervous and what they have planed will not work as they wish.

Reflection 7

MASTERING MATERIALS
Mastering material is an important aspect that the practitioner must have when practice teaching. It is a very simple matter but very important. I believe what will happen on the class is not always like we thought. I believe there must be an unpredictable question from the students. I just suggest that prepare your self well before practice teaching.

Reflection 6

Drama in Micro Teaching Class..? Why Not..?

What do you think if a teaching learning is like a drama?
It would be fun, right? That is what I think. Teaching learning process should be interesting for the students. Therefore, the teacher should have skills how to make the atmosphere of the class become great. I suggest to every teacher in this world that they should make the class as a game or a drama. The teacher is the director and the students are the actors/actress. I am inspired by Play Performance class where I can find joy and fun. There should not be high tension in the class so that the students can study happily.
I can’t imagine what the students feel if the teacher only explains the materials and then give the students assignments or homework, it will be a boring class. However, if the teacher makes the class as playing drama, it will grab the students’ attention to study. Considering the nowadays teenagers are like playing game, I think this method will work.
